Nice? During the process of practice, they faced many obstacles.
Some works in morning shift, some pulak in afternoon shift.
When they managed to plan a time to practise, it was late of the night around 1100pm.
Residents threw egg and split on their heads.. They'd overcome all of them. =p

The Stages of Grief

When a person suffering from a loss, they will experience grief. This is one of the main subtopic in my Principles and Practices of Nurses 2.

We learn this to improve methods of communicating with the patient, who experiences a great loss, such as loss of body parts, suffers from a terminal ill, who suffers from infertility, gets a divorce, has drug addiction and many many more that you can list it as a loss. Besides, we also have to know the skills to commmunicate with the patient's family members, regarding the death of loved one or other loss.

There are 5 stages according to Ross.

STAGES OF GRIEF - KUBLER ROSS
1. Denial - disbelief
2. Anger - to self or others
3. Bargaining - wish to compensate for a replacement
4. Depression - understand but silent
5. Acceptance - emotion stable

According to Ross, most of the ppl will go through all the stages but some may go through certain stages out of all or maybe not in the sequence written above.

Today, I've encounter one person who go through the first four stages but not yet reach Acceptance. She is a very very sentimental type of person, love to collect movie tickets, presents received and memorable photo. She loves to capture pictures and view them everytime when she feels like want to view. Normally, youngsters switch on the laptop for the net, games but she listens to music and views pictures only. This shows how much she precious the photos.

Last week, she just came back from a vacation in Surabaya, Indonesia. Before that, she purposely buy a 3.2MP camera phone for a device to capture nice photos with friends during vacation but today she deleted all the photos (total 130+) accidently due to overspeed of pressing the phone buttons.

Denial
She was so shock of the disappearance of all the photos. She checked and checked, searched and searched all the files in the phone, asking friend to help to search the photos deleted but failed. All has gone, never come back.

Depression
She wanted to be alone with friend staying away from her. She cried and cried, even when she is ironing her uniform. Her tears were dripping onto her uniform.

Anger
She hated herself so much until the level that she felt like want to chop down her own hands. Angry that why she pressed so fast and deleted all the photos. She scolded herself.

Bargaining
Then, she came to the bargaining stage, which she said that:" No mather how expensive it cost to restore back the photos, I will pay it." She wanted to replace them with something else.

Depression (again)
She locked herself without friend disturbing in the room and she cried for another one hour until the eyes were so swollen. She was so tired until slept away.

Denial (again)
She woke up and wished that was just a bad dream. She checked her phone again, hoping all photos are there but it is a reality.

Slight Acceptance
I came back from my afternoon shift, she described the whole process from the very beginning till now. She was trying very very hard to accept it but part of her brain still hoping for a miracle to happen.

Hope she will recover soon.

the Important lesson from Dr. S

Dr. S came for his round in my ward..and I brought out my book quickly to refer back what I have done about the Factors influencing wound healing.

He remembered that he asked me the question, then he asked :" Was it difficult?"
Poor me, I'd answered :"Yes." stupid Hsin Ni. I shouldn't.

He seemed not satisfy how I answer his question. I answered without prioritize the level of importance. I answered Haemorrhage, Immunosuppressed status, Hypovolemic, and all the rubbish. The correct ones are Immuno compromised, Age, Nutritional status, Underlying Disease such as Diabetes, Cancer, then followed by those rubbish...like infection larr, hypoxia larr...

He said I am not confident.
He pointed out all all all my problems
He taught me

1. Greet ppl
2. Introduce myself
3. Answer out accordingly
4. Look straight into examiner's eye

My god...I presented my answers terribly. He gave me one more homework for me to improve on. The question is What is Septic Arthritis? Point out a diagnosis and list out the treatment available for this diagnosis and the time limit is 2 days.

Don't worry Dr, I'll improve and make you change your mind! Check me out!

Formula of Stress

P = F/A

Stress= Force of Mind / Capacity of Brain

proudly present to you by David Lim Jia Chien (my cousin bro larr)
the future engineer of the M'sia.

Thank him for this formula.. spread it ba!

Dr. S - Hi, Ladies!

Dr. S is an orthopaedic consultant in SMC.
It is nice to follow him for his orthopaedic round in ward and in Out-patient Department.
He is willing to teach us (student nurses) what about his own patients. Sometimes, when you are lucky, you can get homework from him and remind him to ask you to tell him what you've found about the homework he gave.
He is a very understanding dr. He will try his best to discharge pt whenever pt is okay to discharge. He thinks about pt's financial and family members, too! He always try to speak cantonese to pt "有痛?没痛?少少痛?" with a bit of his tamil accent...but understandable larr. Pt will answer accordingly.
There was one time in Out-patient Department, a female pt told Amy and me : "医生的样子像傻子,傻傻地。" Then, he asked : "What did she say?" ...we were scratching our head to think what to tell? the lie or the truth? as it was not a good word to tell in front of the dr. Pt was asking us not to tell but dr wanted to know..Then, I wanted to tell : "She said you look like sxxpxx." but I didn't say it because Amy answered faster : "She said you look blur blur." haha..what a great answer. That was a great scene to be there to watch the dilemma of two naive student nurses. hahaha \(*v*)/
Dr. S is gentlemen. Most of the time he will greet : "Hi, ladies!" to all of us..which is quite sweet to listen a dr. greets like this to nurses. When going out of the ward : "Bye, ladies!" hehe =p very shuang.
Last few weeks, he gave Amy and me a homework about Compartment Syndrome and we prepared something to tell him back. He really listen to us and explain more details to us. From 30% understanding flew to 80% understanding about Compartment Syndrome (general larr)... consider geng already you know... eventhough I checked through Wikipedia, it is also quite difficult to understand for a layman like me... ish~! but Thanks a lot, Dr. S! You taught me a lot.
Yesterday, like usual, I'd followed him for his orthopaedic round, something funny happened.
Dr. :"Okay ladies (Jun and me), this pt has Lew-Shin-Kou."
HN :"Ok.."
Dr. :"Do you know what is that?"
HN :oh shit.. "Hehe, no."
Dr. :"You mean you don't know what is Lew-Shin-Kou?"
HN :"Oh, yea lorr." shit lorr what medical term is that? I must know wan meh?
quickly took out my book and write down Lew-Shin-Kou..go back home google it.
Dr. :"It means this pt has high urine acid."
HN :"Oh, okay."
.............
.............
HN :"Oh!!! 尿酸高!!!!! hahahahahaha!!!"
Dr. :"Understood already?"
HN :"Haha, yes yes yes."
Dr. :"It is called Lew-Shin-Kou in cantonese."
HN :"Haha, yea lorr.."
He pulak yang teaches us cantonese...my god! His tamil accent ah..real funny one. =p
Today, he gave me a homework about wound healing.
Dr. :"Okay, you find out for me what is the factors influencing wound healing."
HN...blue-ed off~ =)
Now, google-ing. Factors influencing wound healing.
